There are two schools of thought when it comes to portrait photography. One favors blurry or plain backgrounds, in order to give more prominence to the subject. The other prefers to include the background as part of the “story” of the image. Both types of portraiture certainly have their merit – you’ll have to discover which one works best for you and in which circumstances.
